Funds for this program are limited. The last day for application submission to the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (the Agency) is July 31, 2019, by 5 pm, so act quickly.

Gathering all documentation necessary to submit an application to the Agency can take up to 60 days. Please note, starting an application is not the same as a submitted application to the Agency. There will be no exceptions for applications not submitted to the Agency by 5 pm on July 31, 2019.

In addition, some housing counseling agencies may stop taking applications due to capacity. If you contact a counseling agency that is no longer working with the program, please contact our call center at 1-888-623-8631 to be redirected to another agency or obtain instructions on how you can apply directly online.

If you have lost your job or are recovering from a temporary financial hardship, such as divorce, a serious illness, death of a co-owner or a natural disaster, find out if you are eligible for help from the NC Foreclosure Prevention Fund in one of three ways:

  1. Contact a housing counselor in a partner agency located near you.
  2. Call 1-888-623-8631 (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
  3. Go to “Am I Eligible,” read eligibility guidelines, and click on “Find Out if You Are Eligible For Help From the NC Foreclosure Prevention Fund” and complete the questionnaire. If you are deemed eligible, you will be given the option of applying online or finding a housing counseling organization in your area.

The NC Foreclosure Prevention Fund partners with HUD-approved counseling agencies across the state. These agencies are dedicated to helping struggling homeowners by offering:

  • free foreclosure prevention help.
  • information about other housing help programs in case you don’t qualify for a loan through the NC Foreclosure Prevention Fund.

It may be helpful to read through this website about What We Offer and take a short eligibility questionnaire before you contact a local housing counselor. If the questionnaire reveals you may be eligible, you will have the option to apply online if you choose.

Some agencies serve multiple counties and may have satellite offices in your community. Scroll over your county on the map linked below to learn which agency to contact for help. Contact a counselor with questions or to set up an appointment. If you are scheduling an appointment, ask the counselor what documents you should bring with you.
