How Do I Get Help?


N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund

If you have lost your job or are recovering from a temporary financial hardship, such as divorce, a serious illness, or death of a co-owner, find out if you are eligible for help from the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund™ in one of three ways:

  1. Contact a housing counselor in a partner agency located near you
  2. Call 1-888-623-8631 (Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.;  Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

  3. Go to “Am I Eligible,” read eligibility guidelines, and click on “Find Out if You Are Eligible For Help From the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund” and complete the questionnaire. If you are deemed eligible, you will be given the option of applying online or finding a housing counseling organization in your area.

The N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund™ partners with HUD-approved counseling agencies across the state. These agencies are dedicated to helping struggling homeowners by offering:

  • free foreclosure prevention help
  • information about other housing help programs in case you don’t qualify for a loan through the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund

It may be helpful to read through this website about What We Offer and take a short eligibility questionnaire before you contact a local housing counselor. If the questionnaire reveals you may be eligible, you will have the option to apply online if you choose.

State Home Foreclosure Prevention Project

If you are facing foreclosure for any reason and you have received a 45-day, pre-foreclosure notice, you may be eligible for assistance from the State Home Foreclosure Prevention Project. There are no credit restrictions for this help. If you have received a foreclosure help letter from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency, call 1-888-442-8188.
